MS2UT: Rare random resets, hard drive failure 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Hi All,
I have a MS2UT unit that I use in a RAID1 configuration with two Western Digital 750GB 7500AAKS drives. I use the eSATA interface in both Windows XP and Windows Vista. The unit is using firmwrae V.36.B0F.
I've had some oddities lately with my unit which is causing some sort of erroneous conditions:
1.) During times of alot of copying off the unit, I've seen it reset multiple times during the copy.
2.) After this happened, I've seen it report a primary disk failure.
These symptons have happened on two occasions now. I've taken both of the drives out of the unit and verified with Western Digital diagnostics utilities that the drives are good. If I re-insert the drives, it does a rebuild (it does this ok after this) and the data looks ok. The 2nd time it happened I was beside the unit: I've noticed that the backlighting of the LCD screen (the blue color) dims a bit and goes back to normal when it goes into this kind of failure phase. I am beginning to suspect that this may be a power supply issue potentially.
I purchased the unit from Sans-Digital directly. I noticed that others in the forum have had similar issues with the drive being falsely reported as bad. What was your resolution to this? Thanks.
