2.5″ Laptop Size Hard Drive RAID System in 3.5″ Enclosure

2.5” hard drives have become increasingly popular. They offer some unique benefit that 3.5” Desktop hard drive cannot offer. Benefits such as lower power consumption, small foot print, as well as quieter operation is something that the 3.5” hard drive needs to address. Of course, the drawback is the 2.0″ does not offer as large of capacity as their counterpart. Utilizing the 2.5” hard drive for RAID systems has been an idea that we kept in mind, but it was not materialized until late last year.

As we were designing our 2.5” products, IR12TB and IS12TB, first thing that came to our mind was to make sure it fits into the 3.5” hard drive and floppy slots. Since it fit into those two slots, it can easily upgrade the current system’s 3.5” hard drive or floppy drive to a RAID system. There is not much of storage increase, since the current maximum 2.5” hard drive size is limited to 320GB. However, the IR12TB’s RAID 0 performance boost and its RAID 1 data protection ability is a very useful feature that a single 3.5” hard drive does not offer.
